AN INTERACTIVE ADVENTURE

The oceanographic sailing vessel, Sedna IV, has undertaken the most important scientific and cinematographic mission of her lifetime. Throughout this incredible human adventure, which will last more than a year, the public is invited to follow along with the expedition to share in and understand the mission's goals.

Antarctic Mission, one of the grandest expeditions of modern times, will be taking up the challenge, with your help, of becoming the most important awareness-raising campaign on climate change – one of the greatest environmental challenges now facing our planet. Our goal is to sail to the edge of the South Pole's ice pack to document the effect of climate change on the Antarctic Peninsula - the most rapidly warming place on the planet. The sailors, filmmakers and scientists on board are all completely dedicated to this mission. They will plunge into the heart of this extreme environment, pushing the limits of human endurance, in order to evaluate and gain understanding of this phenomenon.

At the core of the expedition will be a major scientific research program. The scientific protocol, the result of a collaborative effort by researchers from many different countries, will cover several fields from biology to oceanography by way of climatology and glaciology (with the collaboration of: l'Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski-Université du Québec à Rimouski, Instituto Antártico ArgentinoDirección Nacional del Antártico, and the University of Victoria). Also on the research agenda (in cooperation with NASA and UBC) is a major behavioural study that will look at the effects of isolation under extreme conditions.

It is the ambition of Antarctic Mission to provide an exceptional window through which people from all over the world can see the importance of the environmental challenges facing us all. In the tradition of the great explorers of the past, we stand ready to push our limits to show spectators a unique epic drama, motivated by a tremendous quest for adventure, discovery and dreams…
